ACS Table Development

This page was created to let our CTPP partners know the status of the table definition process and to solicit input on those tables.  During November and December of 2007 the AASHTO SCOP Census Work Group under the direction of Jonette Kreideweis created a Table Definition subgroup to review and define the list of tables for the three-year CTPP data product.  This draft list of tables and variables is now being distributed to the Census Bureau and others for finalization.
Users are encouraged to look at the draft Variable and Table List to see if they will fit your needs.

Please send you comments to either elaine.murakami@fhwa.dot.gov
or the CTPP Listserve.  To join the Listserve go to http://trbcensus.com/maillist.html and follow the directions.  If you have any questions you can reach Elaine at 206-220-4460.

Both the Variable and Table list are being developed for a 3 (three) year tabulation of ACS data (2005, 2006 and 2007).  The geography for these tables will be “large” geography (see the geography tab in the Table List spreadsheet) and represent areas of 20,000 residents or more.

Notes:

1.  The Table and Variable lists are very similar to those for CTPP 2000 with these exceptions:

a.  Added many more univariate tables in all three parts.
b.  Sex has generally been omitted, except for Table 1-2 and 2-2.   The feeling was that researchers would use the PUMS file rather than CTPP and combine with several other variables.
c.  Hispanic Origin by Race has been replaced by "Minority Status" in multi-way tables.
d. Cleaned up the universes and improved organization of the tables.
2.  The overall number of cells per table has been dramatically reduced, especially for the tables where Minority Status (3) replaced Hispanic Origin by Race.

3.  Variables added:

a.  Vehicle Availability RATIO:  A calculated variable based on total vehicles and number of persons age 16 and over.
b.  Disability to show more detail on TYPE of disability.
c.  Language spoken (Title VI application)
